ORIGINAL SIN
Summary of the issue: The doctrine of "Original Sin" is that Adam's original sin (in that he was the first of God's human creation and he sinned in the Garden of Eden, as recorded in Genesis) brought about the sinfulness of all humans who would forever afterwards be born of Adam's seed. The doctrine of "Total Depravity" (as many understand that doctrine) is based on the idea of original sin. In this view, every person born into this world is conceived in sin and is born a sinner. The doctrine of Original Sin and the resulting doctrine of total depravity are widely held among Christian churches.
An alternative view allows for total depravity without inheriting the consequences of Adam's sin (which is "death"). We believe the alternative view needs to be given careful and serious consideration.
